Our School and Dúchas

The Schools' Collection of 1938-1939 was an attempt to capture the stories, tall tales, local history, recipes, beliefs etc. of the local people as retold by parents and grandparents to the children in Irish schools during those years. These stories were written down in copies and forwarded to be included in The Schools Collection which is now available at the website, duchas.ie.

Knockminna NS took full part in this project, contributing a total of 89 stories which make for fascinating reading about the local area and customs of the time. We present here just a few of the many stories on the duchas.ie website. The full list can be viewed by clicking here.
